A customer was interested in overclocking his computer, so we dabbled in CPU refrigeration applications - mostly during downtime and after-hours on a hobby basis.
After modifying and repairing several stock machines available on the market for customers across the nation, we developed an innovative evaporator (heat exchanger) design. Furthermore, we specified and employed custom built condenser coils for complete systems that we built from scratch, within the specifications and with the (computer related) technical assistance of the end users.
As far as we know, the machines that we manufactured are still in commission and are located across the nation and actually being traded by the hobbyists in this field.
Our refrigeration was incorporated into the machine which at one point held the world record for speed in the 3D Mark3 video competition! Our systems were cooling the mainboard CPU, and the video card CPU.
These machines typically employ R-404A, and have an unloaded evaporator temperature of approximately 45 degrees below zero (fahrenheit). The built from scratch machines employ NiCad wire to heat the evaporator block to prevent condensation. |
